Back in 2013, LeAnn Rimes released a song called "Borrowed" that was featured on her Spitfire album (her 11th studio album). Now, the country/pop starlet has teamed up with rock goddess Stevie Nicks to reinvent the track for her new Re-Imagined EP.
Rimes and Nicks take LeAnn's original delicate country ballad, and turn it into a gorgeous duet in this new version of the song. LeAnn tells iHeartRadio of working with the Fleetwood Mac singer on the new version of "Borrowed":
"It still doesn't hit me that this actually happened. Stevie (Nicks) has influenced me for so long. She is a rockstar and goddess, and to be in the room with her, for me was so humbling. She is so down to earth and such a cool human! It's amazing when another artist really truly sees you, the artistry and musicianship that you put into your work and to understand the truth and authenticity of your lyrics. It is nice to be seen by someone else, not only on a human level but on an artistic level."
Spending time creating the Re-Imagined version of Borrowed with one of my favorite women on earth #stevienicks was nothing less than pure magic! I’m overwhelmed by the love that all of you are showing the track. “Borrowed” is such a special song! If you haven’t heard it yet, listen via the link in my bio! P.S. - still crying after reading her words and from this whole experience ☺️❤️ #goodcry #feeltheLovE
On Instagram, LeAnn shared some touching words said by Stevie about the duet. She captioned it, "Spending time creating the Re-Imagined version of Borrowed with one of my favorite women on earth #stevienicks was nothing less than pure magic!" The post reads:
"I first heard 'Borrowed' in 2013. LeAnn was singing it on 'The Tonight Show.' I stopped in my tracks and sat down on the floor and started to cry. I understood what she was singing about. I understood that the pain was real, and I understood that it had happened to me... When the song ended, I called my assistant to tell her that one day, I would sing this song with LeAnn. It was our destiny."
LeAnn Rimes' Re-Imagined EP follows her 2016 album, Remnants, and includes five new versions of some of her biggest hits including "How Do I Live," "One Way Ticket," "Can't Fight The Moonlight," "Blue," and "Borrowed" with Stevie Nicks.
Meanwhile, Stevie is heading out on the road again with Fleetwood Mac in the fall. And right before their North American trek kicks off the band will be performing in Las Vegas at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this fall, alongside a star-studded lineup of artists.
