Toto To Debut New Lineup With Virtual Concert Nov. 21

Toto's Steve Lukather and Joseph Williams have revealed the band's new lineup with plans to debut it during a livestream concert coming up next month.

Joining the co-founder Lukather and longtime lead singer Williams are Huey Lewis & the News bassist John Pierce, former Prince keyboardist Dominique "Xavier' Taplin, Ringo Starr saxophonist, keyboardist and percussionist Warren Ham, multi-instrumentalist Steve Maggiora and drummer Robert "Sput" Searight.

About a year ago, Lukather announced that the configuration of the band at the time was going to "call it a day." He noted that Toto had toured relentlessly in recent years and the musicians needed a break, particularly after co-founder David Paich bowed out in 2018 due to health issues.

With a new lineup coming together, Lukather says the band feels fresh and ready to get back to work.

"We could not be more at peace with this move," he said via a press release. "There is a refreshing optimistic enthusiasm to step in to the future. At this moment, Joe and I are the only long-tenured members of the band that want to be on the road continuing to bring music to our multigenerational fan base."

Tickets for the November 21 virtual performance will be available, starting Tuesday, via Dice.

Lukather and Williams each have solo albums due out in 2021 and Toto hopes to launch its 'Dogs of Oz' tour next year if the pandemic permits.

“Joe and I have been friends since I was 17 and Joe was 14," Lukather noted. "During the course of this pandemic we’ve been reevaluating our career and how to move forward. People are either not with us anymore or have retired. We still feel like kids who want to be back on the road as soon as possible. It’s where we live. Joe’s growth as a producer, songwriter, engineer, singer and performer is inspiring. The timing of this move is perfect as Joe is at the top of his game, and he amazes me every day. We are enjoying this collaboration and could not be more enthusiastic about the future.”
