A new documentary focusing on The Beatles' seminal trip to India in the late-'60s will bring the band's South Asian experience full circle with a soundtrack of Indian artists reimagining Beatles classic.
The Beatles And India will premiere on June 6 in the U.K. and a companion album, The Beatles and India: Songs Inspired by the Film, will follow this fall.
Each album track is tied to the Beatles' 1968 visit to the ashram or by other era-specific songs connected to the band's time in India. Some of them include Beatles and John Lennon solo classics like "Dear Prudence," "Sexy Sadie," "Across the Universe" and "Gimme Some Truth."
You can listen to Indian singer-songwriter Nikhil D'Souza's rendition of Lennon's "India India" via the player above!
The film features rarely seen archival footage, photographs, recordings and eyewitness accounts from "The Beatles culturally groundbreaking time in India" in 1968.
"It is the first serious exploration of how India shaped the evolution of the greatest ever rock band and their own pioneering role bridging two vastly different cultures across the universe," reads the synopsis.
