Sammy Hagar Says Van Halen Often Reaches Out About Reunions

There has been at least tepid interest on Van Halen's part in a reunion with either longtime bassist Michael Anthony or former singer Sammy Hagar for a while now.

Hagar revealed to The Pulse of Radio in a recent chat that the iconic band's management reaching out, dangling the reunion possibility, isn't all that out of the ordinary.

"It's, like, every now and then ... management throws something at me or something at Mike, saying, 'Hey, what are you guys doing next summer? Y'know, [Eddie Van Halen] and [Alex Van Halen] are talking about maybe doing this or maybe doing that.' And I'm going, 'I'm workin' next summer!' (Laughs) I mean, they wanna talk to me? Talk to me."

Hagar and Anthony maintain that they haven't seen or spoken to their former band mates in years. As rumors of the proposed reunion with Anthony began to spread, the bassist revealed that the last time he saw Alex was by accident when the two were vacationing in the same place with their families.

Hagar said he lost interest in a reunion when neither Eddie nor Alex reached out to him on his 70th birthday.

And it certainly makes sense that if the Van Halen brothers really wanted to give fans "closure," like Anthony has said they need, they are probably capable of making the requisite phone calls themselves.

After Anthony was contacted last year, he says, Van Halen fell silent again for unknown reasons.

While the Van Halen brothers have yet to clarify their plans for this summer, Hagar and Anthony have a tour with The Circle, which begins April 19. Their new album, Space Between, is available May 10.
