Nikki Sixx Says KISS Not To Blame For Copying Mötley Crüe's Stage

KISS In Concert - Inglewood, CA

Nikki Sixx now says that his criticism of KISS over aspects of the band's stage production on the current leg of its "End of the Road" farewell tour was misplaced.

Sixx said last month that part of Kiss's live show in which mechanized platforms extend from the stage carrying band members is an "exact reenactment" of the finale of Mötley Crüe's 2014 - 2015 farewell.

The bassist's frustration echoed that of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, who called out rapper Travis Scott last year for copping his famous roller coaster routine.

In a recent interview, Sixx pointed out that the shows by Kiss and Scott are produced by a company Mötley Crüe worked with for years.

"We've got no problems with [Kiss[," he said. "You know who we had a little bit of a problem with? And it took a second to breathe. This company — I'm not even gonna give them props naming them. We've worked with them a long time with our production manager, and they've done stuff with us that's really cool..."

He continued, "But we misdirected our anger. [Lee] was mad at Travis Scott. Travis Scott probably didn't even know that we did that however many years ago. And then my thing was they're using the same arms that we developed. But you know what? Not shame on Kiss; not shame on Travis Scott; shame on the company for doing that. We will never work with them again."

In his initial statement from February, Sixx added that it was "not cool" of the production company for rehashing the same apparatus for another major farewell tour. But, perhaps due to previous run-ins with Kiss, most of Sixx's frustration in the moment was directed at Kiss.

While Mötley Crüe is unlikely to tour again, Sixx has teased that he's at the beginning of a busy year with several projects in the works beyond the upcoming Crüe biopic, The Dirt.
