Brian May Launches New 'Save Me' Fragrance For Wildlife Protection

Queen guitarist and co-founder Brian May has announced a collaboration with Italian luxury brand Xerjoff on a new fragrance to raise funds to protect wildlife.

The cologne is named for Queen's 1980 May-penned hit "Save Me" and May's Save Me Trust animal advocacy organization. The fragrance is said to smell of "sandalwood and badger," an animal May has fought vigorously to protect over the years.

May praised Xerjoff founder Sergio Momo in social posts announcing the venture.

"This amazing man is doing something wonderful for animal welfare," May wrote beneath photos of himself and Momo signing bottles of Save Me.

Bottles of the Save Me scent autographed by May and Momo retain for about $500 USD, while the standard 50ml bottle is about $240 and still available. Proceeds will go to support wildlife protection efforts.

May says the fragrance is great "If you want to smell like the British countryside."

May, a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer with a doctorate in astrophysics, has been a vocal opponent of Britain's policy of culling badgers and has fought back against the notion that culls help control disease in cattle.

"A series of governments over the last 10 years, ignoring morality, science and common sense, have spent millions in public money pursuing a policy which is failing to protect farmers' livelihoods, and driving out native badgers towards extinction," reads an explanation on the Save Me Trust's website.
