KISS bassist Gene Simmons has a family, bandmates and businesses but no friends.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer tells Goldmine magazine that he doesn't need friends.
"Even today as I sit here, other than Paul [Stanley], and we only get together when we do stuff for the band… How do I say this without sounding inhuman? I don't have friends," Simmons said. "Yeah, if friends means, 'Gee, I don't know what I'm going to do this afternoon. Hey, you want to come over and hang out?' I'm more interested in what I want to do, and I don't want to pretend that I'm interested in what you want to do because I am not."
Simmons and Stanley have often described their relationship as more akin to a brotherhood than a friendship. They claim to argue often about minutia, but they remain in lockstep when it comes to their ultimate goals for their band.
Stanley said in a 2019 interview that he and Simmons have "only gotten closer and closer over time, which is terrific." He went on to described the bassist as a "terrific partner" and a "brother." Stanley and Simmons are uncles to each others' children.
Whether Simmons and Stanley will build a friendship once their Kiss career is over remains a question for another day.
The 'End of the Road' tour has dates announced through December. Kiss is expected to complete the final leg of the tour in 2023.
